Chubut Supreme Court intervenes in child's death case

The Supreme Court of Chubut decided this Tuesday to intervene in the province's Interdisciplinary Team, the area that granted custody of the minor Ángel López to his biological mother, Mariela Altamirano, to consolidate a reintegration process. The highest judicial body in Chubut unanimously ordered the intervention of the Interdisciplinary Technical Team of Judicial Circuit Number II for 60 days. It will be headed by Judge María Marta Nieto, who must conduct an audit and submit weekly reports. The objective of the measure is to determine whether the protocols and functions assigned to the bodies and teams that participated in the case were correctly followed. The case investigates the minor's death, which occurred last week in Comodoro Rivadavia, while he was in the care of his father and his father's partner, Michel Kevin González. According to what the Argentine News Agency learned, both have been charged and are under preventive custody, as they are considered the main suspects in the death of the four-year-old child, who presented several blows to the head, according to the autopsy. Likewise, the report revealed that the probable cause of death was brain death linked to intracranial hypertension, associated with subarachnoid hemorrhage and generalized cerebral edema. Consequently, for the prosecutors, the multiplicity of injuries to the skull 'evidences that they were caused voluntarily, and this is what caused the great cerebral edema, which ultimately led to the death'.
